FAQs

Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
A: Full, need-based scholarships are available to ALL qualified applicants.
Tuition for half-day (local) participants who do not need lodging is $450.
Tuition for overnight COA participants is $1000 total, including room & board.
Q: WHAT DOES A DAY AT COA LOOK LIKE?
A: A typical day at COA will include:
  • Breakfast
  • Morning Energize (Yoga, hike, body warm-ups, etc.)
  • Sectionals/Chamber music
  • Lunch
  • Masterclasses
  • Free time/Personal practice
  • Dinner
  • Orchestra rehearsal
Q: WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF I'M ACCEPTED?
A: Accepted participants will be notified no later than May 31, 2023.
Q: WHERE WILL THE ACADEMY TAKE PLACE?
A: We will be rehearsing & staying on campus at California State University Monterey Bay, located in beautiful Seaside, CA. Our open dress rehearsal as well as at least one concert will take place in CSUMB's World Theater!
Q: IS HOUSING PROVIDED?
A: Yes. COA tuition includes housing and meals. 
Q: IS AIRFARE INCLUDED?
A: No. Accepted participants are responsible for their own airfare to Monterey or San Jose. COA will provide transportation to & from the airport.
Q: WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE CONDUCTING FELLOWSHIP?
A: COA conducting fellows will be regular participants in the Academy and must submit an instrumental audition.
In addition to daily sectionals, they will receive special training and masterclasses to learn repertoire from a conductor's point of view, as well as podiu
m time with the orchestra.
Q: WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY PERSONAL STATEMENT VIDEO?
A: Your personal statement should be about 1 minute long. Introduce yourself & let us know why you want to be a part of COA!
